Cultural Difference vs. Cultural Deficit Perspectives

To me, it was clear that the Fox News video depicted cultural deficit perspective, while the "What Matters" video depicted cultural difference perspective. I came to this conclusion because in the Fox News video, I saw a man who was trying to change the students' language altogether. However, the "What Matters" video showed something called code-switching, which is the term used for the different languages or forms of languages we use interchangeably, depending on who we're speaking with. This allows students to keep their culture and familiar form of language intact when speaking informally, but it also gives them a chance to practice and perfect standard English. This is the perspective I plan to implement and use in my future classroom.
